TREND REPORT: NEW YORK FASHION WEEK 2019
New York Fashion Week 2019 has just
taken place and we have seen some
interesting sights! AW suggests vibrant
colours such as bright yellows, oranges, reds and some metallics. We saw plain colours
such as white and beige along with loud
neons in pink, green and orange. Metallics
have been a major part of NY Fashion
Week and they’ve turned from silver to pinky hues as we edge into Autumn, featured in
both Tory Burke and Michael Kors collections.

Prints
Christian Siriano included animal like prints in his collection which were definitely a major trend last season and it is looking as though they are to carry on evolving through autumn into winter. His looks were bold with rounded shoulders and ruffled sleeves, again the colours he used were very AW. He included yellows and neutrals seen in many collections with mixed prints and camouflage designs these have been seen in similar looks such as Zimmerman Zimmerman.
Tye Dye, Crochet and Satin
Prabal Gurung Ulla Johnson JYU RIRI
Tie dye has made a return! As we’ve seen in Michael Kors and Prabal Gurung’s designs with loud colours being used for both. Crochet also made a big appearance in many shows including Oscar de la Renta and Ulla Johnson. We saw satin and sheer being used as well in Tom Ford’s short suits and also in Jyu Riri and Matthew Adams Dolan’s collections.
Short Suits, Checks
More of the major
trends were short
suits seen in Dion Lee,
Tom Ford, Linder
and Mathew Adams
Dolan. We also
saw some checks
making a return in
Vaquera and Franklin
Rowein! Reworked
denim was also a
stand out trend
this season.

Fishnet, Cargo Pants, Puff Sleeves
Fishnet we saw in collections such as Mariam Zadeh and Dion Lee who matched it with an underwear as outerwear style. Beige coloured and dark cargo pants were seen all over the catwalk in Ralph Lauren collections along with the same bright neon colours we’ve seen in Prabal Gurung. Puffy sleeves have been huge in NY fashion week as they’ve been seen in most runways, we spotted them in Badgley Mischka and Kate Spade’s new collections.

Marigold and Bike Shorts
Aspen Gold featured a lot in NYFW
and across many of the lines,
Carolina Herreras for example.
The Brandon Maxwell and Max
Mara runways have also featured a
lot of marigold in dresses along
with other bold colours.
Bike shorts were seen in
black by Laquan Smith. These
were also shown in neon colors
by Maryam Nassir Zadeh, as
well as in eye-catching
prints by Area, Collina and Nanushka.

Reworked Denim
Denim has been seen again on the catwalk this season however this time its not how we’ve ever
seen it before. Proenza Schouler, Isabel Marant and Matthew Adams
Dolan all featured lots of the denim patchwork
style designs in short suit styles.

Ruffled Hems and Fringing
We saw a lot of frills and
all white outfits in the
Jonathan Simkhai AW
collection. Marc Jacob also
went with over the top frills for some of his runway looks.
This was similar in the Tory Birch Collection where long dresses with frill detail were
a statement trend.

Leather, Bright Raincoats, Satin
Tom Ford showed us that leather is still around for winter but we’re edging away from the everyday leather jacket and using a more skin like textural approach with how we wear it. Marc Jacobs big use of colour in his collection features in large raincoats which again have been seen in lots of Autumn looks. Satin has made a big entrance and Matthew Adams Dolan does a good job of using it for a short suit look – right on trend.
Styles and Accessories we saw mostly included large hoops, micro shades, bucket hats and head scarves and chain like jewellery!
