Frigiliana

During the summer my family and I visited Frigiliana, a beautiful town full of whitewashed houses which is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. Frigiliana is literally a maze of cobbled winding streets and you can spend hours walking around and getting lost looking at the beautiful white houses with pastel coloured doors. There are many viewpoints which show the coast below and the surrounding countryside. As Frigiliana is situated more than 300 metres above sea level, North African coastline is often visible but unfortunately wasn’t when I visited. It was a bit cloudy, but as it wasn’t scorching hot it was easier walking up and down the steep hills.

The picturesque town is split into two parts: new and old, and has many cultural and historical highlights such as the San Antonio Church which I visited. It was built in the 17th century on the site of an old mosque. It was definitely worth taking a look inside as it had a large impressive alter, a bell tower and different statues dotted around. San Antonio is the main religious building in Frigiliana but there are a few more churches around the town that I would like to see if I visit the area again.

After we visited the church, we went for lunch at a tapas restaurant called Gusto which had a beautiful terrace over looking the town and the mountains. The food was delicious and had many gluten free options. We got a few tapas to share but they also had English/ American dishes on the menu.
